"Pinchin Ltd. has been working with Schouten Environmental for the past 5 years. We have worked together on numerous projects with varying complexities and schedules over the years. Schouten Environmental, with Pinchin as the Consultant, completed a notable project at Norfolk General Hospital in 2022. They provided infection control, abatement services, and removed fireproofing, mechanical insulation, flooring, and other asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) to facilitate upgrades of air handling systems. The removal procedures included Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 removals. Schouten Environmental met the project deadlines and expectations and handles themselves in a professional manner during the noted project. We recommend Schouten Environmental as a qualified abatement contractor for hazardous materials abatement, infection control and general demolition. "RJC Engineers is pleased to offer this letter of reference to Schouten Excavating Inc. for distribution as part of future pursuits following the successful performance of the above-noted project. The project involved demolition of a derelict 3 storey wood and steel-framed building with load-bearing exterior masonry walls and a single basement level for the City of Toronto. The project commenced in April 2024 and was completed in November 2024. RJC Engineers was the Prime Consultant and Structural Engineer of Record. The project was located in the heart of downtown Toronto, directly adjacent to Yonge-Dundas Square, and Toronto Metropolitan University. Schouten performed the work diligently within the tight urban boundaries of the site. Schouten liaised with multiple external stakeholders to ensure the project was completed safely in the presence of undocumented utility services, hazardous substances requiring abatement and close proximity to neighbouring properties and the general public. Overall, Schouten was amicable to work with through project. Their workforce and management team was knowledgeable, fair and available though located outside of the Toronto area. We would not hesitate in offering new opportunities to Schouten for demolition and abatement work. Yours truly"

Remy Consulting Engineers Ltd. were the specifiers and Contract Administration Consultants for the demolition of a large police station building (City of Toronto Property) in a dense residential area in the heart of Toronto. The 2 story structure plus a basement was constructed in 1963 and consisted of a structural steel frame, concrete foundations and floor slabs and clad in masonry walls and windows.
Schouten Excavating Inc. was awarded the contract through competitive bidding. Due to the dense residential area in the 'older' part of Toronto, special precautions were requested by City officials and the community to monitor and be aware of vibration, dust and noise during the demolition.
Schouten honored these requests and carried out the demolition with virtually no complaints from the surrounding residents of the area. Dust was controlled by the use of water misting equipment, vibration/noise was minimized by pre saw cutting large concrete members and the overall site was kept organized and safe. Environmental protection and removal of the hazardous materials were carried out in strict accordance with code(s) and regulations.
As discovered during the demolition process, large buried concrete footings and foundation walls were uncovered during construction (from a former building from the 1920/30's). Schouten provided reasonable and fair costs for the additional demolition and completed the project on time.
We would highly recommend consideration of Schouten Excavating Inc. for your demolition project(s).
Should you have any questions or require further information, please contact me at any time.
Yours truly"
