Project Highlights

Project Overview

The former Maple Leaf Plant in Thamesford was a cornerstone of Thamesford’s economy for over 80 years (est. 1938). At its peak, it employed over 400 local workers and processed fresh poultry as part of Maple Leaf’s national network. With its industrial usefulness in the past, a new chapter was born as Kingwood Homes vision for the property included a transformation of a historic industrial site into a future- ready residential community.

Project Scope:

Schouten was tasked with the first part of this journey with 2 phases of demolition to remove the old infrastructure to make way for the new. With multiple storage, processing and agricultural structures to be demolished, Schouten committed a professional team and advanced demolition and processing equipment to execute the job. The result: a quality project delivered on time and on budget, marking a pivotal milestone for the future development.
The first step of this project was to remove any, and all, designated substances from the structure. Once cleared, the structural demolition and dismantling could occur. Over 95% of the materials could be recycled including all the concrete material, which was crushed on site into reusable aggregate materials.
The final phase of the demolition included backfilling of the basement areas to ensure that the property would be ready for redevelopment. Upon completion, the property was handed back over to Kingwood homes; fully cleared and graded.
