Project Highlights

Project Overview

This project included the removal of structures associated with a shutdown pyrroline facility. This project contained 3 phases. First, the environmental and site decommissioning stage included isolation and disconnection of existing services. An existing gas main was also running through the structures and needed to be re-routed to maintain existing operations on the property. Phase 2 included the large-scale removal of designated substances followed by the complete demolition of structures associated with the facility. The final phase included backfilling of site depressions and site restoration to ensure the areas were left in a safe condition for future land use.
Noteworthy site features included exhaust stacks in excess of 200 ft in elevation, large concrete and steel structures and the kiln structures spanning more than 500 ft in length. Several assets within the demolition area were salvaged and returned to the owner for reuse on other Lafarge projects. Waste diversion efforts achieved 90% of materials recycled – concrete being crushed into granular material and steel being salvaged and recycled.
Schouten’s specialized demolition equipment was put to the test, with state-of-the-art demolition attachments and high reach excavators. The Schouten team was able to efficiently execute the project plan on time and on budget while maintaining compliance to all safety regulations.
