Project Overview
Schouten Excavating was selected by VIP Rail ULC to complete the civil
infrastructure works for the expansion of its Sarnia rail yard. Leveraging decades
of experience working within active rail environments, Schouten was entrusted
with delivering a comprehensive site development package that would support
future rail operations while maintaining strict safety, quality, and scheduling
requirements. The project was awarded based on Schouten’s proven rail
experience, technical expertise, and competitive approach.
Project Scope:
The project included complete site preparation and construction of the new rail
yard civil infrastructure, including survey and layout, topsoil stripping, bulk
excavation, grading, railway subgrade preparation, embankment construction,
geosynthetic installation, sub-ballast placement, granular road construction,
stormwater infrastructure, culverts, subdrain systems, watermain extensions,
electrical conduit trenching, and final restoration. Work was executed in close
coordination with the owner and rail operations while maintaining safe access
and uninterrupted construction activities.
Through proactive planning, experienced field supervision, and effective
coordination, Schouten successfully delivered the project while supporting the
client’s operational requirements and positioning the facility for future growth.
